Rehabilitation Counselling

The rehabilitation counsellors support extensively the chronically ill and injured patients and their next of kin in independent coping. The goal is in maintaining and enhancing the patient's and his/her family's ability to function in an altered life situation. The rehabilitation counsellor is a contact person of the patient and his/her family between the hospital, home, day care, school, health care staff and different services.

Rehabilitation counsellors

  • give personal information and counsel about the disease/injury to the patient and his/her family
  • guide patients and their next of kin at the hospital, and, for example, at home, day care or school, if required
  • direct the patient to the services of medical, social and occupational rehabilitation
  • participate in rehabilitation and co-operation work groups
  • participate in patient groups
  • counsel in the usage of assistive devices
  • counsel in issues relating to social welfare and services
  • monitor and co-ordinate the fulfilling of rehabilitative processes
  • inform about rehabilitation services and courses

We admit patients by referral, but the patient or their next of kin, treatment and rehabilitation staff and other co-operative parties can contact rehabilitation counsellors as well.

The services of rehabilitation counsellors are free to the patient.

Rehabilitation counsellors work at the Tyks main hospital area in hospitals A, T and U.

The work of a rehabilitation counsellor is independent outpatient work and rehabilitation counsellors are an expert part of our multiprofessional work group. The rehabilitation counsellor performs home visits, co-operates with municipal employees and participates in co-operative negotiations in day care centres, schools or social services.

We are a part of the Tyks expert services.
