Psychosis Rehabilitation Working Group, Turku

Patients living primarily in Turku, aged 18–69 years, are followed-up and supported by the Psychosis rehabilitation working group. The cause for referral for rehabilitation is usually psychotic illness. The goal of therapy is to prevent recurrence of psychosis and to help the patients find the resources they need to manage their everyday life. Rehabilitation serves to support and improve the patient's overall functionality and life control.

You need a doctor's referral to be admitted. During treatment we follow up the patient's mental and physical condition and examine his/her life situation. During therapy discussions we plan and agree together with the patient on suitable individual therapy methods. Family and close-of-kin are welcome to participate in planning and carrying out of the therapy. The patient is treated by a multiprofessional working group, which includes physicians, nursing staff, a psychologist, a social worker, an occupational therapist, a hobby instructor, a physiotherapist and a sports instructor.

The therapy methods available to the working group are: working with a personal nurse; medicines; activities on your own, with the family and in a group to improve function and life control; home visits; and network meetings. As dictated by the patient's needs, therapy may also require social services, psychological testing, ergotherapy (occupational therapy) or psychophysical physiotherapy. We also provide service guidance and support plans for training, education and occupation. When needed, we collaborate with actors in primary care, student and occupational health care, social administration and the third sector.
