Our patients are admitted by a doctor's referral.
A physiatrist is a specialist in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (PRM), who has special competence in diseases of the musculoskeletal system, but who also considers ways of improving your ability to function when it comes to other diseases. The physiatrist recommends rehabilitation policies to your treating doctor and promotes your physical and cognitive functioning activities (including behaviour), participation (including quality of life) and modifying personal and environmental factors. PRM is thus responsible for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation management of people with disabling
medical conditions (with special interest in musculoskeletal diseases) and co-morbidity across all ages.
The assessment made by the physiatrist is based on an interview and a clinical examination. It includes assessing mobility, functionality and the need of rehabilitation of the condition described in the referral. Unlike in other clinical specialties, the main focus of PRM is not on diagnostics, prevention, or treatment, but rather on the impact of diverse health disorders on the patients’ level of functioning.
If it is necessary, your treating doctor can apply the assessments and examinations of other Tyks professional groups to assess and improve your ability to function. These assessments and examinations can be made by exercise physiologists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists.
For example, an occupational therapist can assess the functionality of an upper limb and plan therapy, measures of support and coping with daily tasks accordingly.
A clinic fee is collected from visits.
Our outpatient clinic has the quality certificate of the European Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine as a proof of high standard care.
The unit participates actively in scientific research and national development of education of physical and rehabilitation medicine.
Unlike other specialties, our focus is not on treating the illness, but on the patient's ability to function. That is why we consider multiple ways of treatment.
